Finally watched the V show

Post by sacrificialgoddess on Mon Nov 09, 2009 10:48 pm

Kind of disappointing, actually. The aliens are referred to as "Vs" which, I've got to say, is killing me, and that V symbol, which was the symbol for the resistance in the original, has now become a symbol for the visitors. Also, they seem to be cramming the story into the minimal number of episodes possible. And scientists don't seem to be the enemy here. Honestly, it has lost something. I think for meaningful science fiction, I am going to watch my V tapes of the 1983 and 1984 miniseries. And watch the new show for Morena Baccarin possible shots of Alan Tudyk's butt.

Or I could skip these and just pop in Firefly, couldn't I?

The new politic correctness coming through. "V" for visitors, give me a break. Yes I like the original.

I'm obviously getting to be an old fogey. Gimme a good book...even re-reading one I've re-read multiple times...over tv.

Well, except for my judge and true crime shows. Although, most of the ones I like are in syndication, and I'm starting to find they're ones I've already seen. That's sad. I've really gotta get out of the house more.

I didn't care for the original, so I haven't even attempted the new one.

Not that I would had I liked the original. The revivals of too many shows suck eggs for me to try out any more. The new Battlestar Galactica sucks eggs. The new Dr Who sucks eggs. I'm not going to set myself up for disappointment in that fashion again.

I like all the Dr. Whos. Never cared for Galactica, never watched V.

I am/was a big fan of Michael Ironside - such a wonderful bad guy! - so I enjoyed the first V.

Bad news, Gilly. Neither Marc Singer nor Michael Ironside is in this one. Maybe that's what this needs, along with a dash of Jane Badler.

Did you see "Blink?" Now that one would sell you on how good the show can be.

BTW: Watching Troughton now in The Tomb of the Cyberman.

I have no idea what the episodes were called--that's nothing I pay attention to.

I just don't care for the writing. As with a great many shows, I find the writers regularly engage in obvious plot manipulation that rips my suspension of disbelief aside. Whether it's a violation of character or setting or just something outrageously improbable, it wrecks my involvement with the story.

My wife can watch most anything without problem--"that's just how the story goes" is her response to my complaints. I can hang with it until the writers insult my intelligence with something that isn't believable.

I think the show has the following going for it:

1. Being broadcasted in HD, for those with an HD TV.
2. Fancy special effects.
3. Morena Baccarin (Anna) as the alien leader.

By the way, here is a link to watch Blink, so anyone interested can see one of the finest hours Doctor Who has ever offered:

I REALLY enjoyed Serenity, the Firefly movie. Summer Glau shined in that movie!

I just watched all of "Blink". That was really very good. Or, since it is a British thing, . . . bloody brilliant.

I'm sure you're quite right. I'm just not sure if my cable station even shows any British programs. Anyway, I'm glad that you enjoy them. :-)
