Gender and the Planets
Got a random thought/question the other day..... is the moon male or female (energy wise of course; not literal) or both? Is the sun male or female or both? Why do some cultures view moon female/sun male and others view the reverse? For instance, in Greece/Rome sun=male (phoebus) moon=female (phoebe/artemis). In Japan/China, the moon is male and sun female. While reading the Poetic Edda the other day, a foot note mentioned a masculine moon and a feminine sun.
I ask because I"ve been wondering about this in my own path. Sun goddesses keep popping up making themselves known (and I really really don't like the sun; I'm almost a freaking vampire), but I still feel drawn to feminine aspects of the moon. Is it possible to recognize both feminine and masculine energies from both objects? Can the moon be both male and female? It seems to make sense to me.

It does make sense, even people are both male and female, why not the Moon and Sun. I have made peace with the Sun, I too am a near Vampire, so I understand your feeling on it. But have over the last few years come to regard the Sun differently.
But I still stay out of when possible. Apart from basically honouring the Sun I do not do much more.
Oddly I feel planet energy more as a polarity then the Sun.
But I would follow your instincts. If Sun Goddesses are reaching out. I think it is great. Who knows, that sudden burst of energy in a different polarity (female) may lend to entirely different insights

From the Canaanites:
Shapshu is the radiant Goddess of the Sun. Often called the "Torch of the Deities," she is enlightenment and the messenger of Ilu, and can represent comfort and consolation. It is she who returns Ba’al to the living from the Betu Khupthti, the Underworld. She visits and helps care for the Rapi’uma, the spirits of the deceased, as she travels to the Underworld each night and returns to the world of the living during the day. She can have a healing or cleansing ability to burn off the illness/negativity like the sun burns away fog. She may be connected to horses.
Yarikh, God of the Moon, and the fertilizing, semen-like dew of night. He works with Khirkhib in order to ensure his marriage to Nikkal. Because he is the moon God, and because of the cycles of the moon, he may well assist in measuring time. Sometimes he is considered a God of one horn because of the crescent-shape when the moon waxes or wanes.
In early occidental thought, the moon was considered the lunar bull, the son-consort of the mother Earth.

WOW Seventh Crow, just WOW! You are very knowledgeable. And from a purely emotional stand point, any Goddess that is associated with Horses is fine with me.
Thank you
Thank you

Sunna is the goddess of the sun, and Mani the moon is male. She is the life giver, and he the night shield.
Skoll the wolf each month stalks and devours Mani, who rises again. Until Mani rises no more, Skoll cannot stalk Sunna and thus life endures.
