I did manage to get a good view of Halley's Comet through my old 2.4 inch refractor telescope. To the naked eye, it was disappointing indeed, although a good portion of that was because of widespread light pollution. I've used a lot of telescopes, but the most breathtaking night of astronomy I ever had was when I lied down in the grass with a pair of binoculars on a good, clear night in the wilds atop one of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our own galaxy is amazing, and I got a GREAT view of Andromeda. I think there are few things more humbling than to see vast clouds of stars, any or all of which could have planets and life...

Twain was amazing, and well ahead of his time. I am most fond of his hilarious use of exaggeration and irony, which slides into my own writing from time to time (but believe me, I am NOT putting myself in his league! In fact, I think he was in a league all his own/.

Don't I know it! Razz

I prefer to do my learning in an unstructured environment, but hey, I gotta jump through a few hoops to get a fancy piece of paper that says, "WMDKitty successfully completed such-and-such classes, and has earned this degree."

Recently finished Barry Lynn's "Piety and Politics." Now reading Christopher Hitchens' book about Thomas Paine's "The Rights of Man." And my wife just nabbed Hawking's "The GRand Design" for me at the library. Woo hoo!

Oh, and for fun I read some Robert E. Howard horror stories in the last week or so.

Hm mm, well I really haven't "read" the past month or so, just some old Prevention Mags & picked up my yearly "Farmer's Almanac". Have handed out a few books to some buddy's here at the company. Whizzed through "Auras & Chakras" by Fiona Toy, picked it up @ the clothing sales store for $1.50. Also got "Lidia's Italy Italian Cookbook" for $3! A friend gave me The Magic of Shape Shifting" by Rosalyn Greene. I've been eyeballing a read called "A Cup of Comfort for Christmas" by Colleen Sell however I'm forever stuck every night watching Hallmark Channel's Christmas Movies! santa rendeer This is MY time of Year, folks!

War Commentaries of Caesar (Penguin translation). I just went to look something up, but the old fellows prose is sort of absorbing and I ended up starting the whole thing over again.

Now I'm going to have to dig out my copy of his Civil War as well, because I just can't stop before the triumvirate, less Crassus who fell to the Parthians, divides along class and continental lines and slugs it out Noble/Asian vs Plebian/European.
