Bring Your Gun to Church Day

What do you think? I think promoting gun responsibility is a great idea, but I'm not sure the church service is the best place to do that.

I actually like it.

Of course with our Nebraska carry laws, you're not really allowed to carry in places of worship. Not that that is an issue for me, but it would be a bit of civil disobedience, which I'm always in favor of.

I have to laugh. I just came from posting an invitation to other Canadian members of our own Heathen Freehold to take part in an online chapter by chapter review of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course. I was initially somewhat concerned because while Heathenry strongly supports the responsibility for self defense and defense of the community, I was worried that in Canada any religious group that even mentions arms was suspect.

It does me good to be reminded that in our neighbors house, you can't just talk about guns in church; y'all can bring them!

I've been to the churches here. I would not want guns there. To many high strung people in a small area.

Not once the gunplay starts. The crowd thins out pretty fast, and if you repeat often enough, a certain Darwinism begins to take place, with self selection being the order of the day.

[ ::::aside to SG::::
Ummm...I don't think John's ever been to Oklahoma, ya think? ]

We've got some excitable folks in the Central U.S, John.

I'm with SG. I don't think Southwest Kansas, where I lived for 20-odd years, could handle a gun day at church either without some major mayhem. There are quite a few people out there that I sure wish didn't own guns.

There really are so many stupid people out there.

The News of the Weird has an Undignified Deaths column, and part of that is "Thinning the Herd". I'm so sick of GPS. I have customers who can't literally find their way out of my parking lot without it. An example conversation I've had:

"I need the address to the grocery store next door so I can punch it in my GPS."

"Well, the grocery store is right next door. You just make a left out of the driveway and you'll see it on your right."

"Yes, but I need the address for my GPS. I have to use my GPS."

"It's not that complicated, it's really right there." *points*

"Please, this will be a lot easier if you just look up their street address."

So I have to smile when I read about people killed by their GPS. Quite a few have shown up in the Thinning the Herd column; some of which have driven into trains and off cliffs because they followed their GPS system instead of looking at the actual road and where they were going.

I bet those are men!

I have a GPS story. In New York, the day after my daughter's wedding my brother held a brunch at a little French place. I was going there on public transportation with another daughter and her husband. He didn't like the stop I said we needed to get off at so we went with his choice (he's the man!). He took the lead and we promptly got lost. I kept trying to give him my iPhone but he was sure he could find it and wouldn't even look at where we were on it. Finally he looked at it and sure enough we were going the wrong way but he wouldn't tap in where we needed to go so we kept doing different wrong ways even though he had the GPS in his hand. Long story short, a half hour later I led us to the bistro which was 2 BLOCKS from the metro stop where I wanted to get off. Aurgh!

Moral of the story: Some men won't even ask their GPS for directions. Smile

I don't think he has either. There are folks down here who would shoot you for not knowing the right lyrics to Gospel songs. Shocked

My husband argued with both me and the GPS when we were in Colorado. We needed to go North. We were going south. Both the GPS and I were agreed about that. The only person in the car who thought we were going north was the husband. We went through three towns we weren't supposed to see before he finally agreed that I and the GPS were right. Rolling Eyes

I might get a little worried about the minister inciting them to kill the infidel or something like that. Still, I've got my own, I'd take a few down with me.

So dropping a string of firecrackers and diving outside would be a good way to liven the sermon, and cull the herd? Good to know. Chinese New Year is bound to come around again......
