Well, I'm not much of a movie fan, but here are some that I really liked:

Secret Life of Bees
All the Harry Potter movies
Last of the Mohicans
Braveheart
Patriot
Schindler's List
Defiance

Notice a trend in most of them? Smile

I hate courtroom drama movies but this is one of my favorite flicks of all time:

Primal Fear. Just an excellent movie. And of course I have to point out that I like Edward Norton. Great actor.

American History X. Another great.

And of course Fight Club

V for vendetta was on the telly the other night reminded me how much I love that film, I wanted to go out straight away and start a revolution...but instead I went to my boyfriends and watched south park..oh well good intentions!

American history x is a great choice squirrel! The scene with where yer man gets his head stomped off the curb always gets a massive wince out of me!

Cute to read what you guys like.

I love Bringing Up Baby with Hepburn and Grant. I've been told I'm a lot like Susan

Auntie Mame with Rosalind Russell
All About Eve (best viewed in a movie palace filled with other people)
Fritz Lang's Metropolis is beyond brilliant

...

The Princess Bride, Amelie are nice and, this isn't a movie but oh well, the A&E mini series 'Pride and Prejudice' with Colin Firth. What can I say; hurt me.

In the 'film noir' category, imho, nothing beats The Third Man It contains one of the best lines ever uttered in movie history, delivered by Orson Welles.

Dr Magorium's Wonder Emporium- just about the greatest movie about life and death for children, or for those who somehow made it out of childhood without learning that all stories come to an end.

A Bridge Too Far- a thousand human stories are written in each line of history. It always looks different on the ground when its happening, than in nice academic texts.

Gotcha!- because any movie that has has an ER castmember losing his "werginnity" in East Berlin to a hot spy to smuggle out strudel has to be good.

Kidnapped- the Michael Caine version. Watching him standing in a kilt on a barroom table surrounded by men he'd just kilt, proclaiming the Stewart cause with "Aye, but I'm a bonnie fighter!", beats Mel Gibson anyday. Not to mention, the portrayal of the truth of the struggle was more moving and human than anything Hollywood would dare do today; no more did CNN report the truth of anyplace I or my fellows ever soldiered either.

Guilty admission; I made my daughters watch Sailor Moon because I liked it.

You may now laugh and begin throwing comic-con memorabilia.

Dragonball is far superior a manga, because they haven't got to worry about filling air time, so it does not take 4 chapters to do one "move". On the other hand the tagret audience is adolescent boys, so its fluff, albeit it entertaining fluff. There is something to a manga which follows the entire life of its cast from childhood to adulthood.

Can't say I'm surprised. The book is always better than the movie, as they say. Hell, that's even true of Howl's Moving Castle, and I LOVE that movie. I prefer the plot of the book more.

To be fair, I don't totally hate all anime shows. I like Cowboy Bebop and Red Garden, and I got kind of sucked into Fushigi Yugi back in high school thanks to a friend. I've just seen much more anime I don't like than anime I do.

And then there's that which can't be categorized, like Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo. I just about lost my mind when I saw that.

There is fun fluff like Naruto, fun dramadies like Ranma 1/2, deeper and more adult works like Pluto and masterful art works like Princess Mononoke. It largely depends on the genre, budget and target audience.

And how can you forget the Dominion City Tank Police?

A touching love story about a girl and her pink tank (Bonaparte), in a time when groups of out of control armoured vehicles shooting up the downtown core was thought to be wise and socially responsible.

Could happen Beer
