Holy crap monkeys!

Post by sacrificialgoddess on Sat Jun 09, 2012 3:50 pm

So my cousin got married today. She's Church of Christ, and you guys who know me can probably guess what my day has been like. *twitches* Anyway, at the end of the ceremony, there the bride and groom participated in cord magick! I swear that's what it was! You know, when I see things like this in Christian ceremonies, particularly the more conservative strands, I have to wonder if they even know what they are doing. Shocked

(christian)[pagan]
The same people who condemn me for blessing the rabbit I kill and cook to serve at the feast later (black magic!!)[sacrifice or make sacred], will say grace before they eat (sacrifice or make sacred)[hey, we do the same], but only after they do communion (blessing of Christ)[WTF, ritualized canibalism?].

From Catholic to fire and brimstone fundie protestant, they do ritual magic left right and frigging center, with only the educated few having even the slightest awareness that they are practicing divine ritual sorcery.

Its somewhere between funny and scary how much the true fundies use prayer that is at least half sorcery with more wild abandon than the pure Wiccan's even my own Asatru Heathens think sometimes use magic too readily.

I have often been a quietly happy fan of witnessing such displays of theological/religious irony. When I have made mention of such things in the past the prevailing attitude of such Christians is that...magic/spells is "only what other non-Christian people do."...never them,...as if it's just a strange coincidence or something. Wink So....all that stuff about being able to turn a staff into a serpent, part a sea, raise the dead, heal with a touch, drive out demons, walk on water, offering blood/burnt sacrifices, all the praying and blessing,...not at all like what anyone in any OTHER religion involving acts of magick or worship of the Divine might do or have portrayed within their mythologies[wink.wink.wink.].

Well SG, I hope you are feeling better. And WOW.

Yes I noticed such things before. In a Pentecostal church I used to go to. I was very aware of how the beginning of the service with song and sort of dancing was like the beginning of a Pagan ritual with raising of energy.

A lot of what Christians do is very much sorcery as John T pointed out, and magickal practice.

Y'all aren't really surprised are you? Christmas, Xmas tree, Wreaths, Easter Bunny, Easter... All ripped off from pagan ceremonies.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen[smile].
No dear lady, not at all. I have known about those things for decades, and a good many Christians within the chat forums I've attended in the past do as well, and thus many will not even recognize these holidays, although I believe that Christians can still claim such holidays as their own. Such a thing would be determined by the individual and their relationship with God.

Cord magic was a new one on me for a Christian ceremony!

Cord magic: http://www.herbalmusings.com/cord-magic.htm

What they actually did was a, well, spell, for lack of a better word, to keep the couple together.

My cousin would freak if I pointed that out to her.

And this is where we get the quaint saying Tying The Knot It was symbolic in the early Catholic Church. I thought it was replaced by the ring ceremony though.

This was to replace the candle thing.

After my brother out and out asked her what her opinions were of candle magic.

Yes. I have that type of family.

Makes you kind of wonder what that religion would look like if they knew 99% of their religion was comprised of Pagan rituals?

1. No, you aren't nicer than that. You have a twisted evil sense of humor (just as I do) and would probably enjoy hell out of it. Twisted Evil

2. Sure go ahead! Have a ball! Laughing
