Mars by 2019

Post by Mal5252 on Mon Jun 07, 2010 7:34 pm

Hi all ,
I was reading that NASA has set a deadline to send the first manned spaceship to Mars by 2019. Researchers believe that Mars was once like the earth is now, that it had rivers, lakes, and seas. They also believe its probable that Mars had plant life and possibly forms of animal life. One of the main tasks of the first astronauts will be to search for any fossilised seeds or bones beneath the surface of the planet.

We'll be bloody lucky to make that deadline considering NASA's funding has been slashed. Presidents keep doing this: Announcing all kinds of aims like visiting Mars and then not giving NASA the money to make good on it.

Mars might well have had plant and animal life at some point. It's questionable whether we'd be able to find direct evidence like fossils though. I don't know how long fossils stay viable. It also seems likely now that one of Saturn's moons has life on it right now although it would almost certainly just be simple bacterial life.
